Rediscovered Davidson

Roman Ruiz wrote to tell us

… bought my Davidson “Impulse” frame back in 1987. It had been a racer, a trainer, and a weekend bike. I gave the frame to a friend who promptly used it for the same purposes for a few years until recently giving it back to me because he no longer had room for it. And I’m so glad he did, it seems that the older she gets the better she looks. Outfitted with her original components, early eighties Campagnolo Super Record, she never fails to draw attention with her still gleaming black paint and lugged framework. She’s now a classic that rides like a Caddy but has the soul of a thoroughbred - a great quality American crafted bike.

Thanks for the note Roman. They are great riding bikes. Glad you got yours back. Here’s an original Davidson from 1979.

California Dreaming

Tim Evans picked up his brand new Davidson in May and rode it home to southern California.

I arrived home Thursday, May 15. I left Seattle in a cold drizzle and arrived home in a strong 104℉ dry headwind! It didn’t matter to the bike, but I was worn out. It’s taken a week to feel “normal” again. I have attached a picture that I took while eating in a coffee shop in Fairfax, Ca, just northwest of Sausalito. Too bad you and everyone who helped build this bike couldn’t hear the many complimentary remarks people made about it. Even some people who didn’t know anything about bicycles would sometimes say, “What a nice bike,” or some such comment. You would have enjoyed it.

Thanks for the comfortable ride.  The frame and fork are over 20 years old and still being ridden regularly.

My artificial hips demanded a perfect fit...

Dear Bill, I just wanted to let you know how pleased I am with my new bicycle. Because of my artificial hips and other particular requirements, I had expected to need several adjustments and fine-tuning to get a correct fit. However, you folks nailed it the first time...

Sweet Ride

All around it's a sweet ride that has exceeded my expectations... Dear Bob, I'm writing on a couple of topics but would like to begin with how much I like my new, custom Davidson Ti bike. It's hard to know where to begin. The fit is excellent and would have been difficult to match with an off-the-rack frame. The bike is comfortable, responsive and lively. It's a good climber with no discernible (to me) bottom bracket or other flex during full-power, out-of-the-saddle climbs or sprints, the handling is precise and predictable and has made me a more confident descender. the nearly 4 pounds weight reduction from my Impulse is nice and noticeable and, I think, adds to the perception of liveliness. I took 17 minutes off my best RAMROD time, and the new bke certainly deserves some of the credit. Aesthetically, it has an elegant, understated look, especially with its polished decals and stays, which, in my opinion, surpasses the appearance of most if not all of its competition. All around it's a sweet ride that has exceeded my expectations. Finally, you, Bill, and Rob made the buying experience a pleasure.
Thanks for all your help.

The bike and I have survived...

This picture was taken after 5 hours, one 'endo' and two attempts at tree eating. We just completed the Teoccalli Ridge ride at Crested Butte, CO. (Mud, rocks, trees, single track, and a downhill that can only be described as an epic!) The bike and I have survived Telluride, Crested Butte, and a bunch of rides around Denver with nary a whimper. Well at least the bike has not whimpered!
